Criminal Defense Representation in North Las Vegas
Criminal Defense Attorneys in Las Vegas
The city today known as North Las Vegas was originally settled in the early 1920s by settlers attracted to the accessible nearby water supply. An interesting fact that many folks don’t know is that North Las Vegas was not always called that—originally the town was known as Vegas Verde and did not become renamed North Las Vegas until 1932. North Las Vegas was ultimately incorporated as an independent city in Clark County, Nevada in 1946, shortly after the conclusion of WWII.
Today, North Las Vegas is a fast growing city with a growing population nearing 250,000 residents. This expansion has heightened the profile of Las Vegas’ little brother to the North, and the city has attracted ample corporate investment in the preceding decade. This has led to some gentrification and beautification of some areas of North Las Vegas and the city is growing in appeal and relevance amongst Clark County residents, especially young professionals raising families. The justice needs of the community have grown and are currently served primarily by two courts, operating out of two different buildings, in two distinct and separate complexes. These two courts are the North Las Vegas Municipal Court and the North Las Vegas Justice Court.
The City of North Las Vegas operates the North Las Vegas Municipal Court, located at 2332 Las Vegas Boulevard N #100, North Las Vegas, Nevada 89030. This Court exclusively handles the disposition and/or prosecution of misdemeanor offenses committed within the city limits of North Las Vegas. This Court does not have the jurisdiction, personnel, or resources to address more serious criminal offenses such as gross misdemeanors and felonies.
The North Las Vegas Municipal Court has two judicial departments that hear cases. Department 1 is currently awaiting a new judge. In Department 2, Municipal Court Judge Sean Hoeffgen presides over a calendar that includes a wide array of common misdemeanor offenses such as DUI, Battery Domestic Violence (DV), Petty Theft, Reckless Driving, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Disorderly Conduct, and many more. The North Las Vegas Municipal Court, if you’re going to be charged criminally in North Las Vegas, is where you would prefer to be because it means that you are facing less dire consequences—the worst that can happen is a stay of 6 months or less in the city jail—there is no potential for state prison if your case remains there though.
The same cannot be said of the other court that serves the citizens of North Las Vegas—the North Las Vegas Justice Court. This Court handles all manner of criminal offenses committed within the area of Clark County encompassed by North Las Vegas that include non-misdemeanor charges, i.e., gross misdemeanor and/or felony charges. The North Las Vegas Justice Court has three judicial departments to hear cases and three outstanding judges that preside over the dockets. In Department 1 of the North Las Vegas Justice Court, Judge Kalani Hoo mans the bench; in Department 2, Judge Natalie Tyrrell; and in Department 3, Judge Chris Lee holds sway.
As a practicing criminal defense attorney in Clark County, there are very few courts as accommodating and courteous as these three departments in the North Las Vegas Justice Court. All three judges, Judge Hoo, Judge Tyrrell, and Judge Lee, regularly appear in the highest ranks of local judges in countywide surveys of judicial effectiveness and are exemplary and even handed referees who call everything down the middle. If you are charged with a crime in North Las Vegas and have a scheduled appearance in North Las Vegas Justice Court, please give us a call and we will ensure that you get a fair shake and the best possible outcome.
